Multiverse® Node
City Theatrical's Multiverse® Node is the first building block of the Multiverse system.
Each Multiverse Node is a transceiver. As a single universe transmitter, it functions in a similar plug and play manner to the Multiverse® SHoW Baby® and legacy SHoW DMX SHoW Baby® products, and also has a full user interface, with four buttons and a backlit LCD display. As a receiver, the Multiverse Node is the primary single universe standalone receiver in the Multiverse system, and can be part of a larger multi-universe setup.
Multiverse Node models include:
The Multiverse Node 900MHz/2.4GHz (P/N 5902), which is licensed for use in North America only. It contains two built-in radios, 2.4GHz and 900MHz, which allow the user to select which single universe to transmit, and which radio band to use via the SHoW ID. This model is shown in the diagram below.
The Multiverse Node 2.4GHz (P/N 5903) contains a 2.4GHz radio and can be used worldwide.
P/N | Name and What's in the Box | Licensed for Use in
5902 | Multiverse Node 900MHz/2.4GHz | North America
5903 | Multiverse Node 2.4GHz | Worldwide
Multiverse Transceivers are covered by U.S. Patent # 7,432,803 and other patents pending.
900MHz band is licensed for use in North America only.
Additional Information
- Choice Of Broadcast Radio
Transmit and receive on the 2.4GHz band (P/N 5903) or on the 2.4GHz or the 900MHz band (P/N 5902). - mDMX (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
mDMX is a form of DMX optimized for wireless broadcast that dramatically reduces data being broadcast, thereby reducing unneeded radio energy. - mRDM (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
Multiverse is able to broadcast RDM information without disrupting the DMX broadcast. This feature is not available even in wired RDM systems. - SHoW Key Security (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
SHoW Key is an additional three-digit code that can be added to the Multiverse SHoW ID that will prevent any other system set on the same SHoW ID from interfering with your system. - Forward Error Correction (Multiverse SHoW IDs only)
Allows the Receiver to detect and correct errors that may occur in the wireless transmission of data. - Ultra Low Latency
Total average system latency of 4ms. - User Selectable Adaptive Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping
Adaptive Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping identifies and masks off hopping channels that contain interference, replacing them in the hop sequence with alternate channels. - Adjustable Output Power
Sometimes an application calls for the most available broadcast power, but many entertainment systems can utilize lower output power to reduce detrimental effects on other radio systems in the venue, reduce reflections, and improve performance. - User Selectable SHoW IDs
City Theatrical has always produced wireless DMX products that allowed the user to select the optimum transmission method. Users may select full bandwidth hopping, hopping limited to a section of the spectrum (including areas of the spectrum outside of the Wi-Fi range), or adaptive hopping. - Protocols supported: ANSI E1.11 DMX512-A; E1.20 RDM
- Compatible with all Multiverse and SHoW DMX Neo products
- User can select a single universe to receive
- A very simple user interface to set SHoW ID and universe
- RDM proxy and responder functions
- DMX 5-pin in and out/thru ports
- Rugged cast aluminum enclosure
- Antenna: Omni Broadband 900MHz/2.4GHz, 2dBi/4dBi (P/N 5902); Omni Broadband 2.4GHz, 4dBI (P/N 5903)
- Auto-selection of transmit or receive mode
- Firmware updateable via USB port
- CL2 power supply with locking connector
- Built-in auto select DMX512 termination
- Selectable display timeout and brightness level
- A hanging bracket for hanging from pipe or truss

Multiverse wireless DMX/RDM at Tesla’s Giga Texas “Cyber Rodeo” Grand Opening Party |
"The versatility of the Multiverse system meant we were able to reconfigure nodes on the fly, and broadcast nine universes of long-distance data transmission in two separate systems.” - Aidan Marshall, Associate Lighting Designer This case study Q&A explores the Multiverse® wireless DMX/RDM system used at Tesla’s Giga Texas “Cyber Rodeo” Grand Opening Party in Austin, Texas in April 2022, which celebrated the electric vehicle maker’s new $1.1 billion factory, and was attended by 15,000 guests. The dual band Multiverse 900MHz/ 2.4GHz solution used included one Multiverse Transmitter to broadcast nine universes of wireless DMX data out of the console and 10 long range Panel Antennas to transmit and receive 700 feet from the console over both the 2.4GHz and 900MHz bands. |

RadioScan Spectrum Analyzer at Company Broadway |
“This RadioScan setup has been a game changer for us. Now we can easily put the antenna where it needs to be, to see what is happening close to the transmitters and receivers. Before, we were only able to see what was happening in the booth, not where the real action is on stage.” - Kevin Barry, Production Electrician

Multiverse Wireless DMX/RDM at The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze |
"With the Multiverse Transmitter, we were able to focus on setting up and talking to a single device, as opposed to setting up multiple devices. Broadcasting multiple universes from one device means fewer power supplies, a more compact package, and potentially lower wireless DMX costs." - Jay Woods, Lighting Designer, The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor |

Multiverse Wireless DMX/RDM at Super Bowl LIVE in Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida |
“Multiverse worked great for us. When starting to design this show, Multiverse was the best option for us to get data around Bayfront Park. It made our load in process much quicker as well.” - John Fitzgerald, Lead Field Technician, Dynamic Productions USA |
|
Multiverse Wireless DMX/RDM at Hadestown on Broadway |
"Getting set up with Multiverse was unbelievably good. Communication with City Theatrical never stopped. If things changed, Multiverse changed with us. It has been very successful for our show." - Justin Freeman, Production Electrician, Hadestown |
|
Multiverse Wireless DMX/RDM at CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell |
“Multiverse has been bulletproof for us. It helped us avoid all the cable discussions. It requires very little power. The user interface on the Multiverse Nodes and DMXcat made setup very simple for us.” - Lonnie Juli, Lighting Designer |

Multiverse 900MHz Wireless DMX/RDM for Netflix Film End of the Road |
“Being on location makes everything more complicated. The ability to sign into any Multiverse wireless DMX device with my smartphone’s DMXcat app and check responses was unbelievably cool and deeply reassuring. We used everything in the Multiverse Studio Kit and the contactless charging was phenomenal.” - Mark LaPierre, Programmer, End of the Road Netflix's End of the Road is a high-octane action thriller based in New Mexico. Lighting team members included Director of Photography Ed Wu, Chief Lighting Technician Lamarr “Gooch” Gray, Assistant Chief Lighting Technician Dwayne Willis, and Programmer Mark LaPierre, with lighting package the MBS Group. One Multiverse® Studio Kit and an additional Multiverse Node transceiver were used to provide wireless DMX/RDM for various on location shoots in the desert over two months. Find out how their 900MHz Multiverse wireless DMX solution helped them achieve 1,000-foot range broadcasts over mines, broadcast through glass and metal windows, and overcome extreme temperatures and traffic on the 2.4GHz band, in this City Theatrical case study Q&A with Mark LaPierre. |
