City Theatrical’s DMXcat App Release Enhances DMXcat-E Experience

City Theatrical has released an update for the DMXcat app that provides enhancements for new functionality when connected to a DMXcat-E device.

February 28, 2025, Carlstadt, New Jersey – City Theatrical has released an update to its DMXcat® app, version 2.0.0.9.0.164 on February 27, 2025, which provides enhancements and fixes for new functionality when connected to City Theatrical’s DMXcat-E^™ test tool device. DMXcat-E users can start using these new features by updating their DMXcat smartphone app from the App Store or Google Play (requires Apple iOS 13+ or Android OS 6.0+).

All new features are free to DMXcat-E users who update their DMXcat app while connected to a DMXcat-E device. Users may note that DMXcat app firmware updates take 15-20 minutes to perform, in which their smartphone needs to be kept charged and close to the DMXcat-E device throughout the update process.

• “View Levels” indicates current presence of DMX
• Analyze DMX, within the DMX Tester app, shows accurate refresh rates
• Multi-fixture control controls all the fixtures in a group
• Setting DMX preset takes effect immediately
• Ability to rename DMXcat-E device
• Viewing incoming DMX works with DMXcat-E device without locking up
• Art-Net DMX sources are indicated as appropriate in View Levels
• Many streaming ACN sources do not lock up DMXcat-E device
• Streaming ACN outputs within E1.31 Standard
• After removing Ethernet source, the “Sources” screen will clear
• 3-pin XLR cable testing shows correct results
• Battery percentage reflects current battery percentage
• DMX Controller’s overflow menu (vertical three-dot menu) revised for visual aesthetic
  

DMXcat-E (P/N 6100) is an expansion to City Theatrical’s multi award winning DMXcat^® Multi Function Test Tool system of solutions that allows for Ethernet control of a lighting fixture. In addition to all the functions DMXcat users currently enjoy, including utilization of the DMXcat free smartphone application for iPhone and Android to plan, install, operate, and maintain theatrical and studio lighting equipment, DMXcat-E allows users to view and send Ethernet protocols, including ArtNet and Streaming ACN (sACN). As more manufacturers implement RDM Net into their fixtures, the DMXcat-E is ready to be the essential test tool for the future of lighting.
